Employment Opportunity – Senior Program Manager - Political and Economic Cooperation Teams

The Australian High Commission invites applications for the various positions of Senior Program Manager in the Political and Economic Cooperation Teams to contribute to the implementation, management, and promotion of Australia’s development program in Solomon Islands.

About the positions

These positions will work with local and Australian staff to oversee and manage development programs and communicate with the Solomon Islands public about the investments under the Solomon Islands-Australia partnership. Senior Program Managers provide advice on policy and strategy development and contribute to the broader work of the High Commission. All Senior Program Managers also coach and mentor junior staff and work closely with the Solomon Islands Government and other partners to achieve agreed development objectives.

There are two vacancies: one in the Political Section managing leadership development and engagement activities with current and emerging leaders; one in the Economic Cooperation Section overseeing economic governance and budget support programs.

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Contributing to the effective design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of investments in delivered through the Solomon Islands-Australia Partnership.
  • Contract management, including financial management and the preparation of budgets, and reporting on investments.
  • Establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with key stakeholders including in parliament, government, civil society, development partners, and international organisations.
  • Preparing draft speeches, briefing papers, social media posts and other content to effectively communicate with the Solomon Islands public about activities delivered under the Solomon Islands-Australia Partnership.
  • Effectively communicating in a well-informed manner when representing the Australian High Commission in public.
  • Coordinating risk assessments and risk management activities.
  • Maintaining excellent records of all work, and mentoring other staff to do the same.
  • Planning and delivering events for the Australian High Commission which effectively promote the Solomon Islands Australia Partnership.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated ability to manage and implement complex development programs to achieve results.
  2. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Pidgin.
  3. Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain effective working relationships and networks with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently subject to limited direction, to deliver quality outcomes and meet deadlines in complex areas of work.
  5. High level of initiative, flexibility and judgement, and excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  6. Ability to supervise, mentor and lead others in a multicultural team.
  7. Relevant tertiary qualifications from a recognised, high-quality institution (desirable).

Additional skills and capabilities for candidates who have them to highlight:

  1. Demonstrated skills in data analysis and communication, economic assessment, public financial management, or similar.
  2. Demonstrated skills in delivering leadership and professional development opportunities.

The Australian High Commission invites applications for the position of Senior Program Manager in the Political Team to contribute to the implementation, management, and promotion of Australia’s development program in Solomon Islands.

About the position

The position will work with local and Australian staff to deliver strategic communications and public diplomacy activities about the Solomon Islands-Australia Partnership. The position will engage closely with Solomon Islands media, including supporting the management of a new bilateral media sector strengthening program.

Senior Program Managers provide advice on policy and strategy development and contribute to the broader work of the Australian High Commission. All Senior Program Managers also coach and mentor junior staff and work closely with the Solomon Islands Government and other partners to achieve agreed development objectives.

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Organising and managing public diplomacy events, support logistics for in-country visits, and stakeholder liaison.
  • Establishing and maintaining a network of media contacts to draw upon to support Australia’s partnership with Solomon Islands, as well as other key stakeholders.
  • Supporting the management of a new bilateral media sector strengthening program.
  • Producing and contributing to media and social media content and materials promoting the breadth of Australia’s partnership with Solomon Islands (including but not limited to press releases, radio and video segments, photos, pamphlets, posters, banners and reading material).
  • Planning and delivering events for the Australian High Commission which effectively promote the Solomon Islands-Australia Partnership.
  • Contributing to the effective design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of investments delivered through the Solomon Islands-Australia Partnership.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated skills in photography, video editing, graphic design, radio production, social media content generation, event management, or similar.
  2. Experience working in communications and/or with media, such as in public affairs, marketing, event management, photography, or graphic design.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently to deliver quality outcomes and meet deadlines in complex areas of work.
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Pijin.
  5. Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  6. High level of initiative, flexibility and judgement, and excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  7. Ability to supervise, mentor and lead others in a multicultural team.
  8. Demonstrated ability to manage and implement complex development programs to achieve results (desirable).
  9. Relevant tertiary qualifications from a recognised, high-quality institution (desirable), preferably in journalism, communications, public relations and/or graphic design.
