Australia Awards Scholarship applications closing soon

Australia Awards scholarships for study in Australia in 2017 remain open until 5 May through the Australia Awards Scholarships.

Come along to an information session with Australia Awards Scholarship team on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am – 12pm at the Australian High Commission Annex, near Heritage Park.

For scholarship recipients like Natalina Hong, the chance to study in Australia can open up countless opportunities to further their careers.

“Completing a Masters in Public Policy at the Australian National University in Canberra has given me the skills and knowledge to contribute to the development outcomes of Solomon Islands,” said Natalina.

“I returned to Solomon Islands in 2015 to take up a position as Assistant Program Manager at the Australian High Commission, working on the delivery of Australia’s health sector support”.

Natalina said she really enjoyed the experience of living and studying in Australia’s capital.

“I enjoyed the challenges of undertaking a postgraduate degree at an internationally renowned university,” said Natalina.

“The opportunity to study alongside top students from Australia and the region pushed me to do my best. And as an international student I was given great support and access to resources which made the experience enjoyable.”

Natalina also appreciated the chance to form friendships with fellow students from many different countries and cultures.

Australia Awards Scholarships are being offered in priority sectors where the Solomon Islands Government has identified critical resource gaps. The 2017 priority fields of study are: health (not including medicine), education (postgraduate), gender, economics, business and accounting, legal services, engineering (including water, sanitation, construction & mining), fisheries, environment, agricultural and veterinary studies, and information technology.

Scholarships are merit based, meaning applicants will be assessed purely on their leadership potential, academic competence and their potential to contribute to development in Solomon Islands.
